Esportes Gaming Brasil (EGB) has secured a shortlist place at the Global Gaming Awards Americas 2026, with its Carnival social impact programme recognised in the Responsible Business of the Year category.

The group behind Esportes da Sorte, Onabet and Lottu was nominated for its Costura Cidadã (Citizen Sewing) initiative, which was developed as part of its wider Carnival strategy in Olinda.

The programme focused on three core areas: creating income opportunities, developing practical skills and supporting Brazil's local creative economy.

More than 80 women received training in sewing and textile production, with participants then commissioned to produce materials for EGB's Carnival activations. Among the items produced was the official event banner.

"Our focus is on being present within local communities, providing meaningful support and creating a lasting social and environmental legacy. Seeing the Costura Cidadã project recognised by an international award reinforces our commitment to combining investment in culture and entertainment with strengthening local economies and promoting social and environmental responsibility," said Marcela Campos, Vice President of Esportes Gaming Brasil Group.

EGB's wider Carnival programme incorporated initiatives aimed at supporting local businesses, cultural organisations and workers, as well as reducing the environmental impact of its activities.

Licensed street vendors in Olinda received customised stalls and work kits, while more than 40 historic Carnival groups and associations were supported as they took part in the city's open-access celebrations.

The programme also included initiatives for recyclable waste collectors in Recife and Salvador. These included training, personal protective equipment, hydration support and daily financial incentives.

Meanwhile, in Caicó, Rio Grande do Norte, EGB commissioned local businesses to produce a significant proportion of the caps and hats distributed during its Carnival activations, directing expenditure towards the local supply chain.

Environmental measures included carbon offsetting, responsible waste management and the reuse of materials.

The nomination also highlights the role of communications in increasing the reach of corporate social responsibility initiatives. According to the Global Gaming Awards organisers, media coverage of Costura Cidadã formed the primary source of information used in assessing the nomination.

"It's particularly meaningful that this nomination was built primarily on the strength of the media coverage surrounding the project. It demonstrates how effective communications can increase the visibility of social impact initiatives and help best practices reach audiences far beyond their local communities," said Iury Tavares, Press Manager at Esportes Gaming Brasil

Winners will be determined by a panel of senior gaming industry executives, with KPMG independently adjudicating the process.

The awards ceremony will take place on 28 September at The Venetian, Las Vegas, during G2E.
