Bet365 Owners Ranked Sixteeth in Sunday Times Rich List

The Coates family, the brains behind sports betting and casino operator bet365, has been ranked sixteenth on the Sunday Times Rich List, with a net worth of £8.8bn.

This marks an increase of £158m ($197m) in just 12 months! In its 35th year, the 'Rich List' highlights the wealth of the 350 wealthiest people in the United Kingdom.

The bet365 proprietors ranked sixteenth on the list. They are the only individuals in the top twenty involved in the betting and casino industry.

Bet365 has been running since 2000 and was founded by the Coates family in Stoke-on-Trent. Bet365 owners Denise, John, and her brother Peter have been estimated to be worth £8.8 billion, placing them at number sixteen on the list of England's wealthiest individuals.

John, who is Denise's father, is a co-founder of bet365. He is also the chairman of Stoke City Football Club. Since 2023's rankings were published, the family's wealth has swelled by £158m, making them the wealthiest family in the Midlands, bar none.

Denise Coates increased the value of bet365 by acquiring a number of her family's betting stores and selling them to Coral for £40 million in 2005. After identifying the potential of online gambling enterprises, she purchased the bet365.com domain in the year 2000. The bet365 website launched website came online in 2021.

Coates has been the highest-paid CEO in the country for several years. The combined wealth of Britain's billionaires increased by £30,734 since last year's Rich List. However, the 2023 list marks the first decline in the number of British billionaires since the financial crisis of 2007-2008. Since 2022, the number of billionaires in the United Kingdom has decreased by six, from 171 to 175.
