Poker is the most popular and recognizable card game in the world. This game conjures up both images of dark, smoky places like in gangster movies, and the flickering neon lights of Las Vegas.
Everyone knows this essential card game, even those who have never played it. A first version of Poker (which did not yet bear this name at the time) was introduced in the United States at the beginning of the 19th century. By 1850, poker had become the favorite pastime of many pioneer gamblers in the American West.
After a relatively quiet beginning, Poker has spread worldwide and is now the most widely enjoyed casino game. The first online poker room opened in 1998 and the popularity of poker has grown impressively, with players sometimes betting crazy sums.
Today there is a wide range of poker games available, with the most prolific games being Stud Poker and Texas Hold'em. With over 100 million poker players worldwide and growing daily, this game is a heavyweight.
