GambleAware Welcomes Contributions to Lessen Gambling Harm
To lessen gambling damage and offer assistance and treatment to people in need in the UK, GambleAware will set up an open-access funding application procedure.
The financing will last from March 31 through the end of the 2023–2024 fiscal year. The initial application period will begin on August 7 and end on August 21 in 2023.
The money will only be available to frontline services located in Great Britain that provide assistance to people who have been harmed by gambling or who are at risk of being harmed by it. The money will be used to carry out an ongoing project.
Prioritisation of funding requests will follow GambleAware's approach. The following five criteria must be met by organisations: preventing the spread of gambling harm, reducing gambling harm, ensuring that communities have access to a wide range of appropriate services, raising public awareness of gambling harm and/or protecting the most vulnerable members of society from gambling harm.
All proposals must also show the following: the delivery strategy and methodology, the proof of need, the value for the money, the sustainability of the programme, and the prospective results and impacts.
In mid-September 2023, organisations will find out if their applications were accepted.
Zoë Osmond, GambleAware CEO, said:
“We welcome plans for a statutory levy as outlined in the Government’s Gambling White Paper and look forward to its swift implementation.
"However, this has led to a period of change as industry and the gambling harms research, prevention and treatment sector prepare to transition to the proposed levy.”
