APAJO Partners with PokerStars
The Portuguese Online Betting and Gambling Association (APAJO) has welcomed PokerStars, a division of Flutter Entertainment Plc, as its newest affiliate member.
PokerStars will join forces with other market leaders in the APAJO, the only trade association representing entities operating with a local licence, as one of the first brands to enter the Portuguese-regulated market. These leaders include Betano, Betclic, Bwin, Casino Portugal, ESC Online, and Solverde.pt.
Since its founding in 2018, the APAJO has been working on a variety of projects. It also created a Responsible Gambling Manual, in which members agreed to take further precautions beyond those necessary by law. It also represented its locally licenced members in negotiations with regulators, governments, and legislators. The APAJO has also taken a proactive role in the future of online gambling advertising in Portugal by joining the Portuguese Advertisers Association, the country's self-regulatory body for advertising, and most recently, by signing an MoU on Online Advertising sponsored by the European Commission.
Assembling leadership positions in regulated markets through investment is consistent with Flutter's goal, which includes joining the APAJO.
President of the APAJO Board Ricardo Domingues said:
"APAJO is pleased to welcome into its group one of the leading international brands and an operator which has been in the market since 2016. We look forward to working with PokerStars to promote an entertaining, safe and sustainable environment for online gambling in Portugal. APAJO has ambitious plans for 2023, and PokerStars will play an important role in driving these forwards. We also would like to use this opportunity to renew our invitation to the other licensed operators to join."
PokerStars' Joo Saraiva, Planning & Strategy Manager for Portugal, stated:
"We are delighted to join APAJO and look forward to sharing our expertise from other licensed jurisdictions to support APAJO in promoting a responsible and safe play environment. We have high ambitions for this market, and we can't wait to start working together with APAJO."
