More Sportsbooks Authorised in Puerto Rico

Following the licencing of BetMGM in early June, Puerto Rico is quickly growing its pool of authorised online betting businesses.

The US territory is progressing now that the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission has granted more licences. Jaime Rivera-Emmanuelli, the regulator's executive director, confirmed the information and expressed excitement about the prospect of bringing even more licenced operators into the nascent local betting market.

Additional Sportsbooks Join Puerto Rico's Sports Betting Scene

BetMGM and Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort acquired their initial licences early in June.

Casino Metro, which works with Caesars Entertainment, and Stadium, which does business as Winning and uses the IGT betting technology, are the new businesses to have gained entrance. Rivera-Emmanuelli offered the following commentary on the recent additions and entries:

Puerto Rico Gaming Commission Executive Director Rivera-Emmanuelli said:

"With these three operations, we officially begin a new stage of sports betting in Puerto Rico, and with it, we will see the growth of this market, which will generate tourism activity, economic benefits, and solid revenue for the government, among others."

As a result, there are now 30 licences that the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission has granted. Five of them are licences for direct operators or businesses that will manage sports betting activities. The remaining 25 were distributed to a variety of providers who will support the technological foundation.

The regulator anticipates that Puerto Rico will receive $4 million in tax income for the upcoming fiscal year, which puts the island in a strong position. The future of sports betting in Puerto Rico excites Rivera-Emmanuelli, who shares this outlook.

Many Different Events to Bet On

He has praised sporting events like the Super Bowl for bringing excitement and pleasure to sports fans, saying Puerto Rico would gain from this as well. However, the Commonwealth has adopted a proactive approach and aims to incorporate events like Miss Universe and the Oscars. There are other markets to investigate.

In addition, the regulator is satisfied that sports betting websites have a very high level of security that will ensure the fairness of each wager and choice made. Also mentioned by Rivera-Emmanuelli was the practicality and use of interactive betting, which will let Puerto Ricans put smart bets while on the go as opposed to having to travel to a site and place a wager there physically.

With BetMGM now operational and more to come soon, Puerto Rico's sports betting market is quickly gaining traction.
