Both 64% of 15- and 16-year-olds and 64% of youngsters between the ages of 13 and 14 have watched advertisements. Additionally, 61% of those between the ages of 17 and 18 said they have seen gambling advertisements on social media.

Despite the fact that this was less than the 71% in the previous report from 2020, Medietilsynet and Lotteritilsynet were nonetheless concerned about the results.

The advertisements used influencer-generated promotional content in addition to conventional marketing from authorised and offshore providers. 3,000 kids and young people from all throughout Norway participated in the survey and provided comments.

“We want to crack down hard on the use of influencers to lure children and young people into illegal gambling,” Medietilsynet senior legal advisor Monica Alisøy Kjelsnes said.

“This marketing can lead children and young people into these gambling games. The gaming ambassadors help to normalise the most dangerous games. Influencers have great influence, and children and young people are particularly vulnerable to this influence.

“We want people to tip us off if they see illegal advertising. Is also possible to report directly to the company.”
